Ocular Trauma Centers

At the forefront of vision care and innovation, and in accordance with the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022 (Sec. 721), the Vision Center of Excellence has established four Ocular Trauma Centers (OTCs), dedicated to delivering a complete spectrum of care for ocular wounds and injuries.

The OTCs were established to offer a wide range of services, providing essential personnel, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and cutting-edge data analysis capabilities. The centers enable patient access to specialized and subspeciality services, located where graduate medical education programs and residency training opportunities ensure a ready medical force.

Our OTCs are destined to be more than just centers; they are referral hubs for service members, eligible veterans, and covered beneficiaries seeking full-scale ocular assessment, treatment, vision rehabilitation services, and referrals. With regional locations strategically positioned to provide round-the-clock care, they are equipped to handle the entire spectrum of eye injuries, from initial medical and surgical interventions to visual rehabilitation and continued care. Under guidance of the Defense Health Agency / Vision Center of Excellence and the Tri-Service Ophthalmology and Optometry Consultants, each OTC is committed to maintaining exceptional capabilities and functional requirements.

Welcome to a new era of comprehensive eye injury treatment, research, and care.
