Safe Travel

Orientation and Mobility for People experiencing Vision Loss (standard version)

This video will introduce you to how people with blindness or low vision move through their environment by presenting some orientation and mobility skills, techniques, and tools that may help them travel in ways that are safe and efficient. For people with low vision or blindness, one of the most common concerns is safety while traveling and navigating environments. The ability to travel safely and understand where you are in space is referred to as Orientation and Mobility. Orientation is the understanding of where you and your body are in relation to your surroundings, what direction you’re facing, and where you are going. Some examples include navigating the home, indoor settings such as a school or office, and learning to cross busy intersections.
